About Take jake


Who Jake is....
Jake was a wonderful 21 year old who loved life, women, cars and snowboarding! He had a compassionate heart, ...a wonderful wit and a smile that would light the universe. Jake would do anything for anyone, his love knew no boundaries. His life was tragically taken in an automobile/train collision March 3, 2009. He fought and we tried everything for 30 hours. He was pronounced brain dead March 4 2009. Jake had never registered to be an organ and tissue donor, knowing him, how he lived his life and a conversation we had had the prior summer, we made the decision to donate on his be-half. Six people’s lives have been saved on behalf of Jake’s precious gifts. Jake’s liver, pancreas, both kidneys and heart valves were able to be used. All recipients are very well at this point. In his death, just as his life, loving and still touching so many people.

Take Jake is a non-profit charitable organization designed to promote and educate the community on the importance of organ and tissue donation. We also are designed to serve as a source of support and education for the families and friends of organ donors.

Vision statement

Our mission is to support families and friends of organ and tissue donors and to promote and educate the co...mmunity on the importance of organ and tissue donation. We also support the various 501 (c) 3 organizations who are affiliated in accordance with our cause.

How we got started

Jake loved people and loved to travel. A dear friend’s mother was going to Australia, one place Jake want...ed to get to but hadn’t, and she suggested that we send a picture of Jake along with her mother. A simple wallet sized photo that would be easy to access and carry along. She took Jake and put a sticker on the back of the photo document-ing he had been to Australia! Then, another friend went to Italy shortly after that and took Jake but took some wonderful photos that made me smile. This project came about from wonderful friends who were trying to help me through my grief in a way that would make me smile and laugh, just as Jake always did. Now, we have been asking everyone who travels and goes on an adventure to “take Jake” and snap a photo!
